We have recently taken on our first ever apprentice at J Mould Reading, 16 year old Dominic Poole. We see apprenticeships as a way of giving people the skills they need for a long-term, fulfilling career. University is not for everyone and many people are put off by the idea of leaving uni with a crippling debt.
Jay Mould is keen to give people a chance, “We believe we can help to develop the right skills, working as part of a team, and I think a lot of people prefer learning in a job than in a classroom. Dominic approached us, and we liked the fact he’d shown initiative.
Dominic is doing a Motor Vehicle NVQ at Reading College. Reporting to our workshop manager, he will be working with us for two years while attending college for one day a week. He then hopes to stay on at J Mould as a full-time employee. Dominic says “I’m really enjoying working at J Mould. I’m learning a lot of new things. Everyone’s really friendly and nice to work with. I thought it would be hard going from working on cars to working on lorries. But, because all the components are much bigger, they are more accessible which makes them easier to work on”.
