SIZING IT UP

What a 4 Yard Skip Is Best For

Single-Room Strip-Out

Old units, worktops, tiles and sanitaryware from one kitchen or bathroom.

Part Garden Clearance

Cuttings, hedge trimmings, turf and old garden furniture from a part tidy-up.

Garage, Loft or Shed Clearout

Boxes, broken furniture and the things that have been in there for years, gone in one load.

Small Groundwork Projects

Soil, stones or hardcore from laying a small patio or path, in a skip of its own.

SKIP PERMITS

Will Your Skip Be on the Road?

If your skip is going on a public road rather than on private land, the council requires a permit. We arrange it for you. Tell us where the skip is going and we will handle the application.

No Road Permit Required

If the skip sits entirely on your driveway, yard or garden, with no part of it on the pavement or road, you can book online and pick any available delivery date.

Permit Required

If the skip is going on a public road, the council requires a permit and we arrange it with them for you. Allow three working days for it to come through, so order three days before you need the skip on site.

Permit fee: Charged at the council's rate

HAVE QUESTIONS?

4 Yard Skip Questions, Answered

A 4 yard skip is 1.80m long, 1.30m wide and 1.00m high, which is 2.34m³, or about 25 bin bags depending on what you are putting in. It is our smallest size, and it suits a single room strip-out, a garden tidy-up or a garage clearout.

These cannot go in the skip: fridges and freezers, liquids and oils, electrical equipment including televisions and monitors, fluorescent tubes, hazardous and medical waste, tyres, paint tins, batteries and gas bottles. We can usually take them separately, so tell us what you have when you book.

Four weeks as standard, included in the price. If you need it longer, choose a later collection date when you book and the extra weeks are added automatically at £36 including VAT a week.

Choose your delivery date in the booking form above. The earliest available date is usually within six working days, sooner in some postcodes, and later if the skip needs a council permit.

Only if it is going on a public road or verge. On a private driveway you do not need one. If it is going on the road, the council requires a permit and we apply for it on your behalf when you book.

Level with the top rim, and no higher. Anything stacked above the rim cannot be sheeted or lifted safely, so the driver will not be able to take it. If you think you will need more room, book the next size up rather than overfilling.

No, as long as the space is clear and we can get the lorry to it. Tell us exactly where to leave the skip when you book, and make sure nothing is parked there on the day.

It comes back to our own Materials Recycling Facility at Reading Quarry, where it is sorted, crushed and graded. 98.06% of what we collect is recycled rather than sent to landfill, and much of it goes back out as recycled aggregate for construction.
