Dummer grew as a line of houses one plot deep along Up Street and Down Street, and in the 19th century most of them were farms or homes for workers in local trades and services: a brewery, a foundry, a laundry, a blacksmith and a school. Over the last century the village has grown mainly by infill, adding Bible Fields around 1950 and Glebe Close around 1968, while small cul-de-sacs such as The Barns and Queensfield replaced redundant farms. More recently, six houses replaced the old dairy unit at Manor Farm.
By 2004, roughly 30 to 40 per cent of the village's properties had already been extended and updated, and that steady work on old cottages and newer infill alike carries on. We deliver skips across Dummer, RG25, and recycle what we collect at our own facility in Reading.
