Finchampstead's landscape owes a lot to the 19th century. The old forest that covered the parish was enclosed in the first half of that century, and by 1857 the last of its heaths had been replaced by plantations, crossed by long straight rides such as Nine Mile Ride, built for George III. As late as 1971 the parish had fewer than 4,000 people, with social housing at Gorse Ride. Large new estates were then built around California Crossroads, and by the 2021 census the parish had 12,751 residents.
Between 2011 and 2019 only 107 homes were added, mostly on small infill or back-land plots or two homes replacing one, while the post-war estates now see their own extensions and refits. We deliver skips across Finchampstead, RG40, and recycle what we collect at our own facility in Reading.
