Arborfield is really two villages that have grown together: the original settlement around Church Lane, and Arborfield Cross, about a mile to the east. The 13th century church near the River Loddon fell into disrepair, and in 1863 a new St Bartholomew's was built closer to the Cross, leaving the old one a roofless ruin. Arborfield Hall, commissioned in 1837 to replace the old manor house, was demolished in 1955, and estates such as Chamberlain and Melrose Gardens were added around the Cross in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
Arborfield Cross has been a Conservation Area since 1998, so its older buildings sit alongside post-war estates that are now due their own updates and clear-outs. We deliver skips across Arborfield, RG2, and recycle what we collect at our own facility in Reading.
