Whitley was once a hamlet outside Reading's borough boundary, in the parish of St Giles, and is now one of the town's larger suburbs. The main build of the Whitley estate began in the 1930s, and the South Branch Library on Northumberland Avenue opened on 2 April 1935, before many of the houses around it had been built. Later, the Manor Farm sewage works, first built in 1873, was replaced in 2004, and in 2007 its site was granted permission for 1,150 homes at Kennet Island.
So Whitley mixes estate homes that are now the best part of a century old with much newer streets on reclaimed land, and both bring their share of renovations and clear-outs. We deliver skips across Whitley, RG2, and recycle what we collect at our own facility in Reading.
