Winnersh began as one of the four liberties of the parish of Hurst, and in 1841 it had just 673 people. Its station opened in 1910 as Sindlesham and Hurst Halt, in open countryside, but from the 1920s Winnersh grew quickly as ribbon development along the A329 and the roads towards Hurst, and by 1930 the halt had been renamed after the village that had grown up around it. Most of the old village of Merryhill Green was later lost to the construction of the A329(M).
In the decades since, new building has filled the land between those roadside ribbons, with a second station, Winnersh Triangle, opening in 1986 to serve nearby housing and the business park, so older and newer homes alike now see extensions and clear-outs.
